Does the iPhone have good coverage in your area?

You live in the USA and you want to buy an iPhone but wonder if your area is covered by AT&T's 3G network. Hopefully, before you spend your money for the iPhone and the plan that comes with it you can find out if your area has good coverage.

All you need to do is go to AT&T's web site, a coverage viewer is provided. Enter your zip code and click "View Map". You can also enter your street Address if you'd like or your city and state. The more precise you are in your search the better. The map will then show you the existence- or lack of -and quality of the coverage in your area. No need to think twice if you have "Best" coverage. However you should be aware that Good coverage might translate into service problems for you. Some people have reported that they had difficulties placing calls while in a supposed "Good" coverage area. If you know someone with an iPhone who lives near you ask that person about the quality of the signal and you'll get the better idea of what to expect.

If you absolutely must have the iPhone and it turns out you can only get marginal data 3g signals, you might want to consider getting an amplifier to boost the signal you receive. If you still have money left after you get the iPhone you can buy one of those.

Luckily you'll find out that the ATT's coverage is best in your area because after all if you plan on using your iPhone you might as well do under the best of circumstances i.e. with maximum wireless coverage.
